Description
24”x18”
This piece depicts 3 men carrying bundles of seedlings from their original field to their new, spacious field. Rice is thrown into a flooded field and grown close together early in their lifecycle. Once the seed germinates and sprouts, the young plant growing out of the ground is called a seedling. These seedlings are pulled and replanted in a field, spaces apart, allowing them to grow larger. The movement of these seedlings take many forms, from carrying in large wraps on ones head or on the end of wooden dowels held over one’s shoulders. This process requires many people and countless miles of walking back and fourth between rice paddies.
