Seedling are partially sprouted plants which start in a crowded field which are plucked out and carried to more spacious field. These seedlings are carefully placed into a flooded filed, one by one and evenly spaced apart. This process is painstakingly tedious. This piece was the very first one I made as part of my large rice series, highlighting the many hands it takes to bring rice to life. Here, the farmer is shown bent in a downward position, planting seedlings into a flooded field. Her reflection, and the reflection of the planted rice shine in the water.
