This piece “The Land of Rice” depicts the geographic region of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh out of rice. It explores the impact of the partition on global rice trade and cultural divides. Before the partition, basmati crop was concentrated at the foothills of the Himalayas, free from arbitrary borders. Post partition, restrictions were put on which country could grow which kind of rice and also limited who would be the world’s primary supplier of basmati rice.
